Formative Assessment Trigonometry

Lee’s Grade 10 Foundations and Precalculus Trigonometry. Assessment is via the unit test, your project and your classwork.

All grades are formative until a date set a few weeks prior to the end of the course.

The first five grades focus on assessing proficiency with respect to content learning standards.  The last three grades focus on assessing curricular competency learning standards, all with reference to the BC curriculum.

Continued learning is encouraged and can be pursued using the resources detailed in the second table.

# Type Description Proficiency
i Theory Understanding the relative values of sine, cosine and tangent for angles between zero and 90 degrees. Emg, Dev, Prf
ii Computation Using the hypotenuse as scale factor. Solving with SOH, CAH, TOA and the Pythagorean theorem with instructions given. Emg, Dev, Prf
iii Computation Solving with SOH, CAH TOA and the Pythagorean theorem without instructions given. Emg, Dev, Prf
iv Computation Solving for several values or using more than one method. Understanding ‘opp’ and ‘adj’ depend on the relevant angle. Emg, Dev, Prf
v Computation Multi-step problems using SOH CAH TOA, the Pythagorean theorem and earlier grades math. Direct and Indirect measurement problems. Emg, Dev, Prf, Ext
vi Project Communicating and representing (or connecting and reflecting) Emg, Dev, Prf, Ext
vii Project Reasoning, modelling, understanding, solving. Emg, Dev, Prf, Ext
8viii Classwork Understanding and Solving Emg, Dev, Prf, Ext

To continue learning at your own pace after the conclusion of a unit, use the following resources.

# Type Continued Learning Assessment
i Theory Study visual trig values (0 to 90 degrees only) and be prepared to explain what you know. Arrange a whiteboard discussion during a lunch time.
ii,iii Computation Use this practice quiz. This assessment quiz will be assigned via the google classroom during lunch/class time.
iv Computation Use these practice triangles Whiteboard questions drawn from the same two applets. Lunch/class time.
v Computation Practices questions on transum math level 1 and level 2. Quiz on two randomly selected questions from the same question sets. Lunch/class time.
vi Project Respond to feedback and resubmit.
vii Project Respond to feedback and resubmit.
viii Classwork Respond to feedback and resubmit.
