In this project you are to become an expert in multiplying out and factoring binomials.
The objective of this project
- Practice accuracy when multiplying out two binomials
- Practice accuracy when factoring a trinomial
- Practice persistence and a positive disposition
- Practice numerical strategies, such as drawing a prime factor tree when the numerical values are high
This project should be understood as a game. If you choose this project, you are agreeing to the rules of the game and you enjoy the pressure of time.
In doing this project, you will either already be or will become very good at your multiplication tables.
The challenge: You are to succeed in completing the two transum math pages(12 problems on each) against the clock.
The rules:
- You have a maximum of 6 minutes to complete each page.
- You may not use a calculator.
- You may use a multiplication chart.
- You may use a whiteboard/notepaper.
- You must take the challenge during class time or during lunch time, with the teacher present.
- A friend may referee/time you.
- The two pages can be challenged at different times.
- You may fail and try again.
- Day one of the project should be used as practice only.
- You may not press check until the time is up or you have completed all questions.
- You may not correct any questions after pressing check, even if you have time left.
The results:
You will be given a grade for each as follows: 3 correct: Emerging. 6 correct: Developing. 9 correct: Proficient. 11 or 12 correct: Extending.
