Pentagram

The pentagram is an interesting shape with a fascinating history.

Here is an interactive activity.

The golden ratio is the number \frac{1+\sqrt{5}}{2}=1.618 \dots which is found in nature, art, architecture and mathematical forms.

An internet search on either ‘the pentagram’ or ‘the golden ratio’ brings up many readable results.

Use the applet to draw a pentagram. Do some research to find where on the pentagram the golden ratio is to be found. Use the measuring tools to see if your pentagram yields the golden ratio!

Use the available tools to find the center of the circle, and create your own math art. Print out to colour! A pdf is here:pentagram
